The Technical Laboratory is comprised of four specialized units that provide support services to investigative personnel in the Department - the Latent Print Unit, the Photographic Unit, the Polygraph Unit, and the Electronics Unit. There are 132 employees currently assigned to the Technical Laboratory. Most Technical Laboratory personnel operate out of Parker Center. Some field services operate out of the Van Nuys Community Police Station and Piper Technical Center. In order to provide support service to investigative personnel, all of the Technical Laboratory units function on either two watches during the conventional work week or on a 24/7 basis.
The Technical Laboratory strives to support the Department’s mission by providing the best possible service to its customers within the confines of its available personnel and equipment. As a support function, the Technical Laboratory embraces the Department’s core value, Service to Our Communities, by striving to assist line personnel and investigators as efficiently and effectively as possible.
