The ABC Debriefer

The ABC Debriefer is published on a quarterly basis to provide our stakeholders with insight into the Department’s ongoing efforts at promoting responsible sales, service and consumption of alcoholic beverages.  Written by Operation ABC, Detective Support and Vice Division (DSVD) personnel, this publication will alert readers to the LAPD’s Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) enforcement and educational activities, ABC-licensed premise closures, and showcase successful programs the Department has implemented to reduce alcohol-related crime.

Operation ABC is funded through a grant issued by the California Department of Transportation and managed by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.  This grant allows the LAPD to focus additional education and enforcement efforts on the problems associated with irresponsible alcoholic beverage distribution and develop programs such as Standardized Training for Alcohol Retailers (STAR), the Pseudo Intoxicated Decoy program, the Responsible ABC Retailer program and the ABC Debriefer:

The “back-bar inspection” portion of our newsletter is designed to provide law enforcement personnel and our stakeholders with up-to-date information on alcohol-related crime trends, enforcement tips, and additional information that may be useful in enhancing ABC investigations.  Although this section is written for the purpose of increasing officer awareness and reducing alcohol-related crime tendencies, it may also enlighten all readers as to what is new in terms of our response to irresponsible alcoholic beverage sales, service, and consumption.  For your convenience the following links will provide access to past “back-bar inspection” topics:
