33 Year Old Suspect Arrested for Vandalizing a Church

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Friday, September 3, 1999

On August 14, 1999, during early morning hours, an individual vandalized the Knesset Israel Church by writing a hatred message on an exterior wall. The incident occurred days after the Granada Hills Jewish Community Center shootings. Northeast Area Detectives received information from a citizen that assisted them with the identification of a suspect responsible for committing this crime. Detectives also discovered that on the same day of the church vandalism, the suspect wrote another hatred message on a wall located in the 1300 block of North Vermont Avenue.

On September 3, 1999, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Northeast Area Detectives served a search and arrest warrant at the suspect's residence and arrested 33 year old Bruce Edward Marshall for violation of 594.3(B) P.C. (Vandalism to a Church for the Purpose of Intimidation). Detectives also recovered evidence linking Marshall to the crimes at the residence. Bail has been set at $50,000.00.

A press conference will be held at the Northeast Community Police Station on September 3, 1999, at 3:00 p.m., where Northeast Area Detectives will answer any questions regarding this case.
