WHY:
In order to reduce traffic accidents, Central Traffic Division gathers statistical information on arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) and Hit-&-Run traffic collisions. The data collected is then used to develop problem-solving techniques to reduce traffic collisions overall. Recent analysis of collected data revealed a high number of DUI and Hit & Run traffic collisions on Alvarado Street in Rampart Division.
It is believed that the majority of hit & run traffic collisions involve either DUI or unlicensed drivers. Therefore, a combined sobriety and drivers license checkpoint will focus attention on education and enforcement of impaired and unlicensed drivers on Alvarado Street on the above date and time.
Drinking and driving is an unacceptable behavior causing impairment, which may lead to property damage, personal injury or often death. We strongly advise a designated sober driver for those choosing to go out and drink. Additionally, individual drivers are advised that if they do not have a drivers license they should not drive.
