"Dispute In Housing Projects ends In Death"

Los Angeles: On September 17, 2000, at approximately 11:27am, uniformed officers assigned to Southeast Area Patrol responded to a report of shots fired in the 8700 block of South Avalon Boulevard. Upon Arrival the officers discovered the victim, Alvaro Lopez, a male Hispanic, 50 years of age, down at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics of the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced the victim dead at 11:38AM.

An additional victim, a 26 year old male Hispanic, was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for a single gunshot wound. He is listed in stable condition.

The suspects in this shooting were described as two male blacks, 18-20 years of age, who were last seen running from the location eastbound through the Avalon Garden Housing Projects. The shooting appears to have been the result of a dispute.

The investigation is being conducted by Southeast Area Homicide Detectives who can be reached at 323-789-1493.
