Attempt Robbery Leaves One Dead

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, September 26, 2000

"Attempt Robbery Leaves One Dead"

Los Angeles - On Sunday, September 24, 2000, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Rampart patrol officers responded to the southeast corner of Pico Boulevard and Orchard Avenue for an "Ambulance Shooting" radio call. Upon the officers' arrival, they observed two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Responding paramedics pronounced one victim dead at the scene and transported the second victim to a local hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound and is listed in stable condition.

The investigation revealed that the two victims were walking to their car when three suspects approached them. Suspect-1 demanded victim-1's wallet at gunpoint. When the victim resisted, suspect-1 shot the victim. Suspect-1 then shot the second victim and all three suspects fled on foot, eastbound on Pico Boulevard.

The suspects were only described as three male Hispanics, 17 - 20 years of age with shaved heads and dressed in gang attire.

The motive for this crime appears to be robbery. The suspects and weapon remain outstanding. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to call Rampart Homicide Detectives J. King or Y. Valdez at 213-207-2051.

This press release has been prepared by Public Information Officer Charlotte Broughton 213-485-3586.
