"Gang Related Shooting Results 16 Year Old on Life Support"

Los Angeles: Homicide Detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, September 27, 2000, at approximately 12:15 p.m. A 16-year-old Hispanic male was walking northbound in the 1400 block of South Bronson Avenue. Three male Hispanic suspects parked at the curb adjacent to 1449 South Bronson Avenue in a dark blue 1990 Toyota Camry with tinted rear window. The suspects exited the vehicle as the victim approached their location. The suspects asked the victim's gang affiliation. The victim denied any gang affiliation when suspect #1, without provocation, shot the victim in the head area. The suspects entered their vehicle and fled the location southbound on Bronson Avenue.

The Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the location and transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim was placed on life support and was declared brain dead. The victim's identification is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The suspects have not been identified at this time.

The motive for the incident is gang related.

The shooter was described as a male Hispanic, 5'10", 160 lbs., approximately 17 years of age, wearing a red bandana on his face, white tank top, blue baggy khaki pants and used an unknown caliber blue steel revolver. The other suspects were described as male Hispanics, 5'10", 180-200 lbs., shaved head, wearing blue shirts and blue baggy pants.

Wilshire Operations Support Division Homicide Detectives are investigating this incident. Anyone with information concerning the incident should contact Detectives Cooper or Ortiz at 213-473-0444.
