"77TH Street Detectives Investigate Homicide"

77th Area: On Sunday, September 2, 2001, at approximately 9:15 P.M., the victim, 26 year-old Toby Allen Stewart, was standing in the driveway with some friends at 5337 South Arlington Avenue. As a newer model black pickup truck drove by the group of friends, the right front passenger in the vehicle pointed a pistol at them and fired several rounds in their direction before speeding away.

Two victims were injured by the gunfire. Stewart sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso and one of his companions, Sharvette Latrice Alexander, 32 years old sustained a single gunshot wound to her left shoulder.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene of the shooting and transported both victims to a local hospital. Mr. Stewart died as the result of his injuries and Sharvette Alexander is listed in stable condition.

The motive for this shooting is unknown. The suspects and the weapon remain outstanding.
