San Fernando: On Thursday, September 6, 2001 at 10:16 p.m., Foothill patrol officers responded to a shots fired call in the 11500 block of Amboy Avenue in San Fernando. The officers' investigation revealed that Reuben Vasquez, a 24-year-old resident of San Fernando, was standing on the sidewalk when he was approached by an unidentified male suspect. The suspect pulled out an unknown type firearm and fired several shots at Reuben Vasquez. The suspect then fled the scene and has not yet been identified.

Reuben Vasquez suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso and was transported to a local hospital by a Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Ambulance, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking assistance from the community, asking witnesses to contact Foothill Detective J. Martinez at 818-834-3115 or 818-834-3110, during daytime hours, or 818-756-8861 during evening hours.
