Scams and Solicitation Warning

Los Angeles: During this time of National crisis, every Angelino desires to assist in the relief effort for those affected by the tragedy in New York City and Washington D.C. The Los Angeles Police Commission and the Los Angeles Police Department would like to urge the public to make sure their donation will go to the appropriate relief agencies.

It is important to verify and confirm the status of the charity organizations before the actual donation. Also, the Los Angeles Police Department would like the public to exercise extreme caution from door to door solicitations and requests for donations through the Internet asking for credit card or personal confidential information.

Anyone desiring further information should contact the Charitable Services Section of the Los Angeles Police Commission at 213-978-1144.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee, Media Relations Section 213-485-3586.
