Homicide Investigation in Rampart Division at 8th Street and Vermont Avenue

"Homicide Investigation in Rampart Division at 8th Street and Vermont Avenue"

 

Los Angeles: On Saturday, September 15, 2001, at approximately 5:20 A.M., Rampart Patrol Officers responded to an "Assault with a Deadly Weapon Shots Fired" call at 8th Street and Vermont Avenue. Upon arrival the officers observed the victim down on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the victim to USC Medical Center where he died as the result of his injury.

The investigation revealed the victim, later identified as 21 year-old Raul Caren, was standing on the corner of 8th Street and Vermont Avenue. After hearing several gunshots, witnesses saw the victim run eastbound on 8th Street and collapse to the sidewalk.

The motive for the shooting is unknown. The suspect or suspects and the weapon used are outstanding.

Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating this homicide. Anyone with information that may assist in this investigation is urged to call Detectives L. Velasco or D. Noone at 213-207-2151.
