Thirty-four year old pedestrian killed by drunk driver

"Thirty-four year old pedestrian killed by drunk driver"

 

Los Angeles: On Sunday, September 16, 2001, at approximately 6:30 p.m., thirty-year old Elder Ramos of Los Angeles was driving a 1979 Chevy Blazer westbound on 1st Street approaching Chicago Street. Thirty-four year old Maria Franco of Los Angeles was walking northbound Chicago Street across 1st Street against a red traffic signal, and was struck by Ramos’ vehicle.

Franco sustained massive trauma, and received emergency medical treatment at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics. Franco failed to respond to emergency treatment and was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of her injuries. Ramos was arrested for investigation of Vehicular Manslaughter and Driving under the influence.
