Drive By Shooting Claims Life

Los Angeles: Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the death of Abel Rodriguez, male Hispanic, 20 years of age. On September 2, 2002 at approximately 2:15 p.m., the victim and a male companion were standing in front of 4129 Normal Avenue. The suspects described as four male Hispanics with shaved heads drove by in a new black SUV possible Ford Expedition. An exchange of words occurred at which time the suspects in the SUV fired several shots striking the victim in the upper torso.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the victim to USC Medical Center where he was treated and admitted into the Hospital. On September 8, 2002, the victim failed to respond to treatment and was pronounced dead.

The motive for the shooting is believed to be gang related. The weapon and suspects are outstanding.
