Motorcyclist Died From Traffic Collision

Los Angeles: On Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at approximately 3:35 a.m., a traffic collision occurred on Pacific Coast Highway just south of Sunset Boulevard. Mr. Nathan Monroe, a 21 year-old resident of Venice, California, was westbound Sunset Boulevard when he negotiated a left turn to southbound Pacific Coast Highway on his 1977 Kawasaki 1000 motorcycle. At the same time, a 51 year-old driver had just pulled his 2000 Mercedes out of a private parking lot and was preparing to negotiate a left turn to merge into northbound Pacific Coast Highway. Mr. Monroe continued southbound and collided with the Mercedes. Mr. Monroe was thrown from his motorcycle sustaining serious injuries.

An air evacuation helicopter landed and transported Mr. Monroe to UCLA Medical Center. He was treated for major head trauma and admitted to ICU in critical condition. On September 12, 2002 at 10:45 a.m., he was removed from life support and succumbed to his injuries.

West Traffic Division detectives are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Officer Dan Kemble at 213-473-0227 during normal working hours.
