Injured"
Los Angeles: On Saturday, September 14, 2002, at
approximately 7:55 p.m., Foothill uniformed patrol officers responded to a
"Shots Fired-Ambulance En Route" radio call to the 13400 block of
Mercer Street, Pacoima. Upon arrival at the scene, officers were directed to
three shooting victims.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a group of
people, including the victims, were standing in the street when a black
vehicle sped by. A member of the crowd told the occupants of the vehicle to
slow down. The vehicle returned and the occupants of the vehicle fired into
the group of people, striking three of the four victims.
The three injured victims were transported to local
hospitals. Victim Nancy Ramirez, a 23-year-old resident of Pacoima died as a
result of her injuries. Two male juvenile shooting victims are in stable
condition. An additional 18-year-old female who was standing with the
shooting victims was not struck by the gunfire.
The weapon and suspect(s) are not in custody.
Foothill Homicide Detectives Charles Lenane and Jim Freund
responded to the scene and assumed responsibility of the investigation.
