Gang Related Shooting Leaves One Dead
Los Angeles: On September 14, 2002, at 11:16 p.m., West
Valley Area uniformed officers responded to a "Shots Fired, Ambulance
En-Route" radio call in the 7500 block of Irondale Avenue, Winnetka.
The responding officers were directed to the back yard of a single-family
residence where a party, attended by 20-25 teenagers, had been held. The
officers were led to a 15 year-old male Hispanic gang member who had been
shot several times and was lying on the lawn at the location. The victim was
subsequently transported to West Hills Hospital, where he was pronounced
dead shortly after arrival.
The investigation revealed that the victim was approached by a lone male
who arrived at the location just as the party was ending. The suspect
inquired as to which gang the victim belonged. When the victim responded,
the suspect drew a handgun and fired several shots at the victim, striking
him in the chest, arm and leg. The suspect fled and was seen entering a
light colored vehicle that was parked a block away on Covello St.
No suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with this
case.
