Los Angeles: On Friday, September 9, 2004, Mayor James K. Hahn, Chief William J. Bratton, Sheriff Lee Baca and other members of the law enforcement community will join together to promote "Measure A", the half-cent sales tax increase initiative, to create a permanent source of public safety funding for all law enforcement agencies in the county. The measure will be on the November 2, 2004, ballot.

"Measure A" would allow for the net gain of 1,260 police officers and 128 civilian support personnel for the City of Los Angeles increasing sworn officers from 9,200, to a total of 10,460 officers.
