Man Snatches Purse and Assaults 65-Year-Old Woman

Los Angeles: Wilshire police detectives are asking the public's help in identifying a man whose images were caught on surveillance tape at a nearby Laundromat prior to the purse snatch and assault that occurred on September 23, 2005.

The incident unfolded at 6:25AM, near Pico Boulevard and Kenmore Avenue, when a man standing near his dark colored SUV saw the victim walking on the sidewalk.  The man walked behind the victim, snatched her purse from her shoulder and entered his vehicle.

The victim ran and confronted the man while he was sitting inside of his vehicle.  Moments later, the victim was able to get back her purse and walked away.

The man drove a short distance from the location, exited his vehicle and ran after the victim.   After punching and dragging the victim, he again took her purse and fled in his vehicle.

The female Hispanic victim suffered a broken arm, several bruises and scratches from the incident.

The suspect is described as a male black, 6 feet tall, between 35 and 40 years old and weighed 190 to 210 pounds.  The vehicle is described as a dark color SUV.

The media is welcome to schedule an appointment with Media Relations to film the surveillance video.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the identity of this suspect  to call Wilshire robbery detectives at 213-922-8267.  On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAW-FULL (1-877-529-3855).
