Transient Asleep on Sidewalk, Dies When Car Backs Over Him
Los Angeles: A transient sleeping on a sidewalk was struck and killed by a car early Saturday morning.
On September 23, 2006, around 3:30 a.m., the car's driver, Jeffrey David Cacho, 23, of Los Angeles, was backing a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr rental car west in the eastbound lanes of 4th Street, near San Pedro Street, when he backed into a driveway at 404 East 4th Street. The victim, an unidentified male Asian transient in his 50s, was hit as he slept on the sidewalk in front of the location.
The victim was taken by paramedics to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No alcohol or drugs were involved, however Cacho is an unlicensed driver and will be booked for Felony Vehicular Manslaughter.
