Korean Man Dies in Shooting

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Detectives are asking for the public's help in solving the murder of a Korean man who was shot to death Saturday while driving his car on Wilshire Bouelvard.

On September 23, 2006, around 1:45 a.m., John Kim, 22, and a female companion, also Korean, were driving westbound on Wilshire Boulevard near Masselin Avenue. Suddenly an unknown male Asian shot several times at Mr. Kim and his passenger. It is not known whether the shooter was also in a vehicle.

The victim was taken by his companion to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to USC Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

It is not known whether the shooting is gang related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Asian Crime Unit, Homicide Detective Solomon or Yueng, at 213-847-1620, during normal business hours. After hours and on weekends, phone the 24-hour toll free Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).

The identities of callers wishing to remain anonymous shall be protected.
