Safe Driving Around Schools

What:
Councilmember Jack Weiss will join representatives from the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles School Police Department, Los Angeles Unified School District, and Westwood Charter Elementary School to showcase the school's parent volunteer valet program and remind drivers to use extra caution when children are walking around schools.

When:
Wednesday September 19, 2007
7:30 A.M.

Where:
Westwood Charter Elementary School
2050 Selby Avenue, Los Angeles 90025
(Northeast corner of Selby and Mississippi)

Who:
Councilmember Jack Weiss, Council District 5
LAPD Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner, Operations-West Bureau
LAPD Captain Nancy Lauer, West Traffic Division
LAUSD School Police Representatives
Westwood Charter's Principal and Parents

Why:
As the new school year begins, drivers are reminded to be extra cautious when driving around school campuses. With parent involvement and assistance from the City's Department of Transportation and local law enforcement, schools can implement volunteer "valet" programs to make drop-offs safer for young students.
