Off-Duty Husband & Wife LAPD Officers Help Save a Woman’s Life NR17256ml

September 8, 2017

Ontario: Two off-duty Los Angeles Police Officers help save the life of a 71-year old elderly woman who went into full cardiac arrest.

On August 22, 2017, around 4:30 p.m., Officer Frank Garcia and his wife, Officer Susan Garcia, were off-duty with their three children at a local restaurant, located at 3700 block of Inland Empire Boulevard in the city of Ontario.

While waiting to be seated, Officer F. Garcia and Officer S. Garcia observed an elderly woman going into full cardiac arrest.

Patrons called 911 while both officers immediately began Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The officers continued CPR on Ms. Marcy Schneidmiller, 71, a Chino retired school teacher until the recue ambulance arrived.

Schneidmiller was taken to a local hospital where she remained for 5 days until she recovered.

Schneidmiller’s granddaughter, Amanda Chavez, 22, who witness the incident, stated that if it wasn’t for the CPR performed by the off-duty officers, she doesn’t believe her grandmother would have survived.

Ms. Chavez is grateful for both officers “being at the right place at the right time.”
