10 Year-Old Child Victim of a Hit and Run

Los Angels: On December 3, 2003 at approximately 6:30 p.m., a hit and run vehicle versus pedestrian, traffic collision occurred on San Pedro Street at 79th Street, which resulted in the death of a 10 year-old girl.
Shantrelle Freeman, a 10 year-old female, and Dejuan Grant, a 5 year-old male, were crossing San Pedro Street at 79th Street when they were struck by a vehicle travelling southbound. The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene without stopping. A witness observed the collision and recorded the license number of the vehicle. Officers conducted a follow-up to the registered owners address and located the hit and run vehicle which displayed evidence of a collision with pedestrians.
Officers identified the driver of the vehicle, who admitted involvement in a collision. Charles Hall, a 49 year old resident of Los Angeles, was arrested for felony hit and run.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the victims to Harbor UCLA Medical Center, where Freeman died as a result of her injuries. Grant was also injured, but is expected to recover.
