During the early morning hours of August 31, 2007, the Los Angeles Police Department in conjunction with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office, served 60 search warrants in the Cruces area, otherwise known as "Ghost Town." As a result of those search warrants, 43 suspects from that community were arrested and are awaiting prosecution.

The second phase of the Cruces Project involves the rebuilding of a community and the Los Angeles Police Department Harbor Area is dedicated to that mission. Enhancing public safety and reducing the fear of crime to protect the community’s future, is why the LAPD has joined with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, Council District 15, various City and County agencies in a pledge to take action in partnership with families, neighborhoods and local businesses.

On Saturday, September 29, 2007, there will be a Community Clean-Up and Restoration Health and Safety Fair in the heart of "Ghost Town." Community members and local business have pledged their time to make Cruces a safer and cleaner neighborhood.
