LAPD Brings Cheer to Military Families

Los Angeles: On December 17, 2007, men and women from the Los Angeles Police Department traveled to Camp Pendleton’s Naval Hospital and Balboa’s Naval Medical Center to deliver holiday cheer and gifts to wounded military personnel and their families.

Officer’s from Southwest Area’s patrol, Gang Enforcement Detail, Crime Suppression Detail, Community Relations Office and the Senior Lead Office donated their time. The officers delivered gift cards and toys to give to the junior enlisted families that are stationed at Camp Pendleton. In addition elements from Operations Central Bureau, Internal Affairs, SWAT and Central Division joined Southwest Area in thanking our military families.

These families have spouses that have been either wounded or killed in Iraq or Afghanistan and are currently deployed overseas. Some of the families visited have also suffered a loss during the fires in and around the Camp Pendleton area.

After delivering a shipment of toys that would make Santa Claus proud, the officers made a trip to Balboa Naval Medical Center to visit the Wounded Warrior Center. At the amputee physical therapy center, officers visited with the critically injured military members that are still hospitalized.

Southwest Commanding Officer Captain James E. Craig said, "We at the Southwest Area are proud to support our military personnel and their families. The fact that our officers donated their time and money shows the level of appreciation we in the Los Angeles Police Department have for the sacrifices made by our men and women in the military."
