Man Found Unresponsive During a Jail Cell Check NR11429rh

Los Angeles:  On September 12, 2011, a man was arrested in Pacific division for possession of narcotics and booked into the 77th Street Jail Facility.

On September 13, 2011, at around 11:50 a.m., Jail Division personnel were conducting a cell check and sick call.  When jail personnel attempted to speak with him, he was non-responsive.  Jail personnel immediately entered the holding cell and notified the on-site medical staff.  The medical staff responded to the cell, but the man showed no signs of life.  The medical staff immediately attempted to resuscitate.  Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel also responded and pronounced him dead at scene.

Personnel from LAPD’s Force Investigation Division are investigating the in-custody death.  The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of death.  There were no officers injured as a result of this incident.
