Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision NR19232jc

Vermont Square: The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the driver involved in a hit and run collision.

On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, around 1:20 a.m., a fatal hit and run traffic collision occurred on Normandie Avenue south of 51st Street. A dark sedan was traveling southbound Normandie Avenue when it struck and killed a pedestrian that was crossing in an unknown direction across the southbound lanes of Normandie Avenue. The pedestrian was outside of a crosswalk. The driver of the dark sedan continued driving and did not stop, render aid, and identify him/herself as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The victim is described as a male Black believed to be 40-years-old. His identification is still under investigation.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should stop, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
