Fatal Traffic Collision Leaves Two Dead NR19338rc

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department South Traffic Division detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred early Sunday morning leaving two dead at scene.

On December 29, 2019, around 12:39 a.m., a male motorist driving a black 2016 Tesla exited the westbound 91 freeway/Artesia Boulevard at a high rate of speed. He failed to stop for the red light at Artesia Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, and collided with a male motorist driving a black 2006 Honda Civic.

The driver of the Honda was southbound on Vermont Avenue negotiating a left turn to eastbound Artesia Blvd at 91 freeway. The impact of collision caused the two occupants in the Honda to be fatally injured.

The Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced 40-year-old male driver and 39-year-old female passenger dead at scene. The identity of the victims is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Both driver and passenger of the Tesla were both transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Tesla was not arrested; however, the investigation is still ongoing.
