South Traffic Division Collision Investigations Officer Of The Year For 2008
Police Officer II Timothy Halvarson, Serial No. 37437, has been selected as “Officer of the Year 2008.” It is an honor for the men and women of South Traffic Division to recognize Officer Halvarson as the Collision Investigations Officer of the Year for 2008. He was selected for this prestigious award because of his demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and willingness to go beyond the call of duty to assist citizens in the community. He was also selected for his developed compassion of professional competence in traffic collision investigations where he has been commended numerous times for showing outstanding dedication, hard work ethics, and sincere compassion for Department personnel and community members.
Officer Halvarson displays strong leadership qualities and sets an excellent example for his fellow officers. He is known for his professional demeanor with everyone with whom he comes in contact, and sets a positive example for those his co-workers. He is a team player and because of his knowledge and maturity, his peers often call upon him for information and assistance when completing their traffic collision and arrest reports. In addition, he has been very proactive in traffic enforcement, often demonstrating his diligence to educate the community member in his effort to keep the drivers and pedestrians safe as well as to save lives.
Officer Halvarson grew up in the City of La Mirada and attended La Mirada High School, where he played roller hockey for his high school. After graduating from high school he attended California State University of Fullerton and majored in History. He volunteered for the United States Army where he spent three years active duty and three years as a reserve. He served as a Military Policeman at Fort Bliss, Texas, and was assigned to combat operations in Iraq, the 314th Military Police Company. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the United States Army.
Officer Halvarson’s employment history started with the “International House of Pancakes” where he worked as a dishwasher. He worked as a waiter at Angel Stadium prior to joining the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in March 7, 2005. His LAPD work assignments include 77th Street Patrol Division and South Traffic Division, where he is currently assigned to the Community Traffic Safety Unit.
Officer Halvarson lives in Capistrano Beach and enjoys his dog “Boxer” with his wife, Courtney. His hobby is surfing and his surfing associates have given him the nickname the “Wedge King” to commemorate his surfing exploits in Newport Beach. He is also committed to fitness and he is an avid weight lifting enthusiast.
In recognition of his many accomplishments and work achievements, South Traffic Division is proud to recognize Police Officer II Timothy Halvarson “Collision Investigating Officer of the Year” for 2008.
