Collision Investigator Officer of the Year - Police Officer III Matthew Hilliard
The South Traffic Division Command announces with great honor and distinction the selection of Police Officer III Matthew Hilliard, Serial No.38639, as the South Traffic Division Officer of the Year. Hilliard has been assigned to South Traffic for the past five years and was promoted to Accident Investigation Training Officer in February, 2013.
From day one, Officer Hilliard established himself as an outstanding officer and leader amongst his peers with characteristics only a few elite officers have been bestowed upon here at South Traffic Division; the courage to do the right thing at all times, professionalism, commitment to leadership, dedication to duty, and a work ethic second to none.
Officer’s Hilliard resolve in arresting Driving Under The Influence violators earned him a 2013/2014 Mothers Against Drunk Driver’s (MADD) Award for outstanding contributions to rid Operations-South Bureau streets of dangerous and impaired drivers. This award is given nationally every year to hundreds of dedicated officers who go above and beyond the call of duty each day to maximize the number of intoxicated motorists being removed from public roadways and highways.
Officer Hilliard is well known at South Traffic Division for his helpfulness to his fellow team members and his commitment to providing quality service to members of the community. The combination of his high ethical standards and vast experience enable him to be an excellent mentor to other employees. Officer Hilliard demonstrated his “COMMITMENT TO LEADERSHIP” and “QUALITY THROUGH CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT” by attending several collision investigation schools on his own time and at his own expense. Two great examples of the aforementioned schools are that Hilliard is a traffic reconstruction expert and is one of South Traffic’s finest drug recognition experts.
Surprisingly, as busy and productive as Officer Hilliard’s work schedule is at South Traffic, he still manages to find time to travel across country at least once a year with his 14 year old son and fiancé. Officer Hilliard has had a profound impact on South Traffic along with his outstanding leadership skills and efficacy made him the unanimous selection for this year’s Officer of the Year.
