Gina A. Sanders was promoted to the rank of Captain in January of 2010. Prior to transferring to Rampart Patrol Division on January 30, 2011, Captain Sanders was assigned to Southeast Area as the patrol commanding officer. Rampart Area has 330 assigned personnel. The Area covers 5.54 square miles with a population of approximately 164,961 residents.
Captain Sanders began her career with the Los Angeles Police Department in May 1980, as a Radio Telephone Operator II. In July, 1981, she was promoted to Police Service Representative and to Senior Police Service Representative in January 1986. In March 1993, she joined the Department’s sworn ranks. During her probation, she was assigned to Foothill Area where she was awarded the Police Star for her life saving efforts at the scene of a traffic collision. She transferred to Hollywood Area as a Police Officer II. In 1997, Captain Sanders became a Field Training Officer in Central Area. In 1998 she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred to Devonshire Area. In 1999, she transferred to Rampart Area where she worked as a patrol supervisor, complaint supervisor, adjutant, and vice unit supervisor. In July 2007 she promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and served as Watch Commander at 77th Street Area. Prior to her most recent promotion, Captain Sanders was the Adjutant to the Chief of Detectives.
Captain Sanders was born on an Air Force base in Altus, Oklahoma in October 1960. She was educated locally and attended Los Angeles City College where she obtained her Associate of Arts Degree. Captain Sanders went on to earn her Baccalaureate Degree in Occupational Studies-Vocational Arts from California State University at Long Beach.
Captain Sanders is a member of the Los Angeles Womens Police Officers Association and the Law Enforcement Association of Asian Pacifics. Captain Sanders is married to husband Joe Sanders, a retired Assistant Watch Commander last assigned to Central Area. She has two adult children and resides in Los Angeles County with her husband. |
