Captain Gerald A. Woodyard was born in Mobile, Alabama and raised in Sacramento, California, and he is the youngest of three children. His family moved from Alabama to California when he was a young child.
Captain Woodyard began his career with the Los Angeles Police Department as a Probationary Police Officer in Southwest Division in 1995. His assignments as a Police Officer included Northeast Division, Southeast Division and Training Division as a Physical Training and Self-Defense instructor. Captain Woodyard was promoted to a Sergeant in 2002. As a Sergeant he was assigned to Harbor Division, Operations-South Bureau, and Counter-Terrorism and Criminal Intelligence Bureau.
Captain Woodyard promoted to a Lieutenant in 2008, and returned to Southeast Division as a Watch Commander. In 2011, Captain Woodyard was promoted to Leiutenant II as the Officer-in-Charge of the Community Relations Section, which is responsible for identifying and fostering relationships with the key stakeholders on behalf of the Chief of Police.
In January 2012, Captain Woodyard was promoted to the Patrol Commanding Officer of Southwest Division. In September 2012, he once again returned to Southeast Division where he is currently the Patrol Commanding Officer.
Captain Woodyard is married and is the father of three children. Captain Woodyard currently resides in Orange County and is an active member of Eastside Christian Church. |
