19-Year-Old Shot and Killed While Walking in Alley

Los Angeles: A 19-year-old was shot and killed as he was walking in an alley in South Los Angeles.

On Friday, July 27, 2007, Velton Gates was approached by an unknown suspect in the alley behind Coliseum Avenue and Stevely Street. The suspect shot Gates multiple times with an unknown type handgun and fled the scene.

Paramedics responded and pronounced Gates dead at the scene.

The motive for the shooting is unknown.
