Suspect Armed with Multiple Weapons
Los Angeles: A man armed with a rifle and a handgun pointed the rifle at Officers, resulting in an officer involved shooting.
On February 19, 2009, at about 4:40 p.m., Southeast Patrol Officers saw a vehicle matching the description of one they knew to have been involved in a shooting a short time prior that had injured two victims. The vehicle was a Burgundy, 1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic.
Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the suspect led police on a short pursuit. Near 105th Street and Olive Street the passenger, 30-year-old Raymond Hunter, jumped out of the car, armed with a rifle. Officers continued to follow Hunter who he ran east on 105th Street, while the driver continued northbound on Olive Street.
As Hunter crossed South Broadway from 105th Street, he pointed the rifle at the Officers and Officer Banuelos in defense of his life, fired his duty weapon at Hunter. Hunter was not hit.
Hunter ran south on South Broadway where he finally dropped the rifle, but continued running eastbound on 106th Street. Another patrol unit who had responded to the area to assist with the incident located Hunter and arrested without further incident. Hunter was also found to be carrying a concealed semiautomatic pistol in his pants pocket. Both weapons were recovered and taken into evidence.
No Officers or suspects were injured.
Hunter was booked for Attempt Murder on a Police Officer and is being held without bail. The driver of the vehicle is still outstanding.
