Armed Domestic Violence Suspect Arrested NR09279kr

Los Angeles:  On June 7, 2009, at around 6:15 p.m., an armed and combative suspect was hospitalized after resisting arrest while being taken into custody for domestic violence.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Southeast Area patrol officers were called to the 11400 block of South Main Street for a domestic violence suspect.  Officer Jeffrey Bright, a 12-year LAPD veteran and his partner, Probationary Officer Gregory Roberts, 10 months with the LAPD, responded to the call where they confronted the suspect, 54-year-old Michael Bowers.

Bowers was armed with a screw driver and refused to comply with the officers’ commands to put down his weapon and submit to arrest.  As a result of Bowers’combative behavior, the officers utilized a TASER, a spray irritant and baton strikes to subdue him and take him into custody.

On June 8, 2009, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the attending physician at a local hospital determined it was necessary for Bowers to be hospitalized for injuries sustained during the non-categorical use of force.

The LAPD Force Investigation Division is conducting a law-enforcement-related injury investigation and Southeast Area detectives are handling the domestic violence investigation.
