Captain Art Miller is a California native, born and raised in Glendale. He joined the Department in April 1978. He has worked a variety of assignments including three patrol divisions, Narcotics, Gang Unit, Training Officer and Metro Division.
As a Sergeant he has worked Background Investigations, Recruitment, Aide to the Assistant Commanding Officer Operations-Central Bureau.
After promoting to the rank of Lieutenant he worked as the Watch Commander at Southwest Division, he also oversaw the operations of Southwest Night Watch Detectives, Vice and the Gang Unit. Additional assignments included a tour at Detective Headquarters Division overseeing the operations of the Threat Management Unit, Missing Persons Unit and Mental Evaluation Unit. He was the assistant Commanding Officer of the Department Ombuds Office, and, the Officer-in-Charge of the Department Reserve Program.
Captain Miller worked Media Relations where he represented the Department as the Spokesperson.
His most recent assignment was at Professional Standards Bureau / Internal Affairs Group.
Captain Miller is the recipient of the Los Angeles Police Department's top three awards for Heroism. They include the Medal of Valor, the Police Medal and the Police Star.
Captain Miller holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and Master's Degree in Organization Leadership.
He is a Graduate of the FBI National Academy, the LAPD West Point Leadership Program and of the California POST, Supervisory Leadership Institute, where he was an instructor.
Captain Miller has been married to his wife Linda for 25 years. Their son Ricky is currently a Junior at San Diego State University.
