Detectives Investigate Homicide of Infant

 
Los Angeles: On December 19, 2001, Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department, Abused Child Unit responded to an abandoned baby girl that was placed inside a trash dumpster at the 3800 block of Nicholet Avenue, in Southwest Division. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the infant dead.
The investigation revealed that the baby was full term and had just been born, had sustained multiple stab wounds to her torso. Detectives located evidence at the crime scene that lead them to 25 year old, Ada Carranza, the child’s mother, Carranza had given birth to the child earlier that day. Carranza was arrested for 187 (A) PC. Ada Carranza is currently in custody and being held without bail.
The Los Angeles Police Department would like to remind the public that the law allows mothers who do not want their newborn to drop the baby off at any public or private hospital. The law was enacted to prevent incidents like this from occurring. There is no fear of prosecution and the baby can be left at the hospital with complete anonymity.
