South Traffic Sobriety Checkpoint

April 21, 2008

What: Sobriety Checkpoint

When: Saturday, April 19, 2008
6:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.

Where: Pacific Coast Highway between Eubank Avenue and Broad Avenue

Who: South Traffic Officers

Why: Despite the tireless efforts of thousands of advocates and law enforcement officers alike, drunk driving continues to be one of America’s deadliest crimes. This operation will be conducted in an effort to reduce the incidents of injuries, death, and property damage associated with intoxicated drivers. Harbor Division has experienced an increase in Driving under the Influence related traffic collisions year to date compared to 2007. The checkpoint will serve as a reminder to the Wilmington community to use designated drivers and not drink and drive. Our message is simple, if you drive drunk, you will be arrested.

Approximately ten traffic enforcement officers (motorcycle officers), ten collision investigation officers and one collision investigation Sergeant will be involved in the checkpoint.
