The Specialized Enforcement Unit (SEU)/Motorcycle Training Unit is a unit within the Specialized Enforcement Section of Emergency Operations Division. The unit consists of two motorcycle sergeants and 14 motorcycle officers. This unit provides the following functions to the Department as well as other police agencies throughout California:
•Commercial Vehicle enforcement
•Commercial vehicle inspections at major traffic collision sites (City vehicles as well as other commercial vehicles, as requested)
•Respond and assist in the investigation of motor officer serious and fatal collisions
•Administration of the Motor Officer Program for the Department including vehicle and equipment research and development, vehicle testing, equipment/product evaluation
•Coordinate testing for motor officer candidates every two years
•Motor Officer basic riding school, annual In-service training updates for LAPD and Allied agencies
•Provide dignitary protection, escort/motorcade planning and movements
•Coordinate with Employee Assistance Unit for Active Duty and Line of Duty funerals
•Liaison with Motor Transport Division for motorcycle maintenance and repair
•Conduct Department motorcycle testing and evaluations and conduct the same with LASO
•Staff and control traffic resources during Unusual Occurrences or disasters
•Evaluate and test motor officer equipment submitted by Planning and Research
