CARE Alert Issued for 4-Month-Old Boy NR10134SF

Los Angeles:  The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is requesting that the media provide the public with the following information to assist law enforcement efforts in locating a possible abducted child.

Yesterday, March 18, 2010, at about 6:00 p.m., Maria Carmen Alicia Alfaro and her 4-month-old son Alexander Ricardo Leyva went missing from the 21000 block of Saticoy Street in Canoga Park after Ms. Alfaro told family members that she was taking the baby to a parenting class.   The family became concerned when the two did not return from their outing and have not been heard from since.  

The abducted child, 4-month-old Alexander Ricardo Leyva, is described as a male Hispanic with brown hair and brown eyes; he is 22” tall and weighs 20 pounds and was last seen wearing a brown shirt.

Suspect Alfaro is a 26-year-old female Hispanic with brown hair and brown eyes; she stands 5’5” tall and weighs 165 pounds.  She was last seen wearing a black tank top, blue jeans and black shoes.  It is believed that the suspect may have taken the baby to Mexico and may be accompanied by a man named Carlos Alvarez. Mr. Alvarez is a person of interest and is described as a male Hispanic who stands 5’8”-5’10” tall.

Alfaro and Alvarez may be traveling in a silver 1999 Volkswagon Passat License Plate 4SBE318, or a green Ford Expedition License Plate 5ROW643.



Anyone who may have information about the whereabouts of Maria Carmen Alicia Alfaro, her son, Alexander Ricardo Leyva and Carlos Alvarez are asked to call Topanga Area Detectives at (818) 756-4800.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at (800)-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crimestoppers by texting to phone numbers 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a mobile telephone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.”  Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on “webtips” and follow the prompt.
