The Los Angeles Police Department has a newly formed Entertainment & Trademark Unit (ETU) that works directly for the Commanding Officer of the Media Relations and Community Affairs Group. The ETU coordinates with the City Attorney’s Office the Intellectual Property Rights of the Department.
Under the guidance of Commander Andrew Smith, Commanding Officer of the Media Relations and Community Affairs Group, all Trademark Licensing Agreements, Ride-along Trademark Licensing Agreements, Access Agreements, and Location Agreements are reviewed and approved.
Additionally, the ETU coordinates entertainment projects such as television documentaries/series, movies, Internet, books and magazines. Examples of such work include, the FX production of 44 Minutes-The North Hollywood Shootout, the Michael Mann production of RHD, and the Two Cops production of Hollywood Homicide.
