Jorge A. Villegas
Deputy Chief Jorge A. Villegas was assigned as the acting commanding officer of Operations-Valley Bureau (OVB) on November 6, 2011. Over 2, 200 sworn Los Angeles police officers are assigned to the Valley Bureau’s eight police commands including over 150 civilian personnel. The entire OVB contingency is the largest of the four Los Angeles Police Department Bureaus. Operations – Valley Bureau spans close to 230 square miles and is home to 1.7 million Los Angeles- San Fernando Valley residents. The San Fernando Valley is also home to vibrant businesses, as well as significant education, community-based, and clergy institutions.
On January 1, 2012, Villegas was appointed as the OVB commanding officer. Prior to this current assignment, Villegas was the Assistant to the Director, Office of Operations. At the Office of Operations, Villegas helped to oversee crime control strategies, deployment, bias policing investigations, community policing, overtime management and the Administrative Support Services Unit.
Deputy Chief Villegas has spent over two decades acquiring experience in a variety of assignments such as: patrol, narcotics, gangs, detectives and administrative operations. His range of field diversity included assignments at Hollywood, Rampart, Northeast and Van Nuys Patrol Divisions. He has also worked at Juvenile Division, Operations- Central Bureau, Management Services Division, and Detective Bureau. Villegas was an Area commanding officer at Mission Area and also a Patrol Commanding Officer at West Los Angeles Area.
Villegas’ successes have been in the refinement of systems and the fostering of quality relationships. The blend of both has led to quality achievements and clarity in the mission, vision and values of the Department and its personnel. He has been the recipient of numerous internal and community commendations, and he has been awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation.
Chief Villegas holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from Azusa Pacific University, as well as a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s Delinquency Control Institute, the FBI National Academy and the West Point Leadership Development Program, where he also has been an Instructor.
Chief Villegas is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates, the American Society of Industrial Security International, the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association, the Latin American Law Enforcement Association, the California Peace Officers’ Association, and the Police Officers Association of Los Angeles County. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Police Relief Association.
