Disgruntled Employee Lashes Out

Los Angeles:  A disgruntled employee returned to his former place of employment and lashed out in anger, stabbing two of his former co-workers, seriously injuring one.

On February 9, 2009, at around 10:40 a.m., Carlos Juan Sylva went to the 8200 block of White Oak Avenue to confront his former employer after being fired earlier in the morning from his security job.  After arriving at the business Sylva began stabbing two of the security company's employees with a pocket knife.  As Sylva continued his attack one of the victims armed himself with a handgun and ordered Sylva to stop his attack.  Sylva ignored the victim's warning and charged at him again causing the employee to fire one round from the handgun, hitting Sylva in the chest.

Sylva was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.  The two injured employees received stab wounds to the neck and abdomen.  They were also transported to local hospitals; one victim was listed in critical condition while the other was listed in stable condition.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Valley Homicide Detectives Sammy Hancock or John Doerbecker at 818-374-7730.  After hours or on weekends, calls may be directed to a 24-hour, toll-free number at  1-877-LAPD-24-7 or by texting CRIMES (274637) and beginning the message with the letters LAPD.  Tipsters may also submit information on the LAPD website  www.lapdonline.org.  Tipsters may remain anonymous.
