Police Seek Witnesses to Fatal Hit and Run NR12126bb

Los Angeles:  LAPD Valley Traffic Division (VTD) detectives are looking for anyone who may have witnessed a fatal hit and run traffic collision in which a 79-year-old female pedestrian was killed.

On Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 6:30 a.m. in Pacoima, a vehicle travelling south on Glenoaks Boulevard collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk at Mercer Street.  The driver, only described as a Hispanic male, got out of his car and looked at the victim in the street, then got back into the vehicle and drove away without rendering or requesting aide as required by law.  A witness described the suspect’s vehicle as a bright red pickup truck, possibly a Nissan Frontier.  A second suspect vehicle, described as a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a female driver, was then witnessed colliding with the same victim after she was down in the roadway.   The second vehicle also failed to stop, render aide, identify themselves or notify authorities as required by law.

The victim has been identified as 79-year-old Pacoima resident Virginia Ramirez.

Anyone with information on this traffic collision is asked to call Officer Jennifer Ward, Valley Traffic Division Detectives at 818-644-8114 or 818-644-8000.  During non-business hours or weekends, calls may be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800)-222-8477). Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most key pads) using a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.”  Tipsters can also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on “web tips” and follow the prompts.
