"Victim Dies After Being Struck by a Drunk Driver"

West Los Angeles – On July 1, 2000, at 7:20 P.M., a red Ford Explorer driven by Te Renna Marie Rivera, a 33 year old resident of Long Beach, was southbound on Pacific Coast Highway approaching Bay Club Drive when it veered off of the roadway onto the shoulder and struck a white Ford Mustang which was parked. The Explorer also struck Javier Gonzalez, a 45 year old resident of Los Angeles, who had been standing alongside the car. The Explorer continued approximately 100 feet where it ran off the roadway and collided with a chain link fence.

Mr. Gonzalez was airlifted to UCLA Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Ms. Rivera was transported to Santa Monica Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and subsequently booked at Van Nuys jail for Felony Vehicular Manslaughter while Driving Under the Influence.

The investigation is being handled by West Traffic Division Detectives 213-473-0234.
