Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the publics help in identifying the person(s) responsible for the death of a 39-year-old man shot and killed Tuesday afternoon.
On August 7, 2007, at about 1:00 PM, officers responded to a shooting that had just occurred in the 5700 block of Halbrent Avenue. When they arrived at the location they found Luis Arturo Velarde, of Van Nuys, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Witnesses at the scene stated they heard a shot and observed the victim stumble and fall to the ground. Velarde was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
No suspects or vehicles were seen and the motive is unknown at this time.
