$50,000 Reward Offered for Murder Suspect

WHERE: Sherman Way and Van Nuys Boulevard (Southeast Corner) Van Nuys, Calif.

WHO: Los Angeles City Councilmember Tony Cardenas Captain James Miller, Van Nuys Area Commanding Officer

WHY: On Saturday, January 6, 2007, at around 12:10 p.m., Van Nuys Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call near the southeast corner of Sherman Way and Van Nuys Boulevard. Upon arrival, they found Johnny Cano, 16, a resident of Van Nuys, suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest and head.

According to witnesses Johnny Cano was walking eastbound on the South sidewalk near a bus stop when he was approached by a Hispanic male suspect wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and white baggy shorts. He pulled out a dark colored medium caliber revolver and for no known reason, fired several rounds at Cano. Cano was shot multiple times in the upper chest and head. The suspect ran to a white passenger car in the nearby parking lot, which was driven by another Hispanic male. The suspects drove away on Sherman Way.

Cano’s family will be attending the news conference.
