email Captain Rolando Solano was
appointed to the Los Angeles Police Department in April 1990, and
after successfully completing his Police Academy training, he was
assigned to Foothill, Van Nuys and Central Divisions where he
worked patrol, foot beats, and vice assignments. During his tour
of duty in Central Vice, he initiated abatement proceedings against
several drug and prostitution ridden motels. These abatements
eventually cleared the area for the establishment of the Staples
Center/LA Live entertainment properties. In 1996, he was selected
as an element member for a crime suppression platoon in
Metropolitan Division where he received the Police Commission
Meritorious Unit Citation for teamwork during his deployment at the
"North Hollywood Bank of America Robbery". After Metropolitan
Division, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to
West Valley Division. In 1999, he was promoted to the rank of
Detective and was deployed to Wilshire Division, where he was
loaned to Robbery Homicide Division's Rampart Corruption Task
Force. At the conclusion of the Task Force, he accepted an
assignment as an investigator and surveillance element member in
Internal Affairs Special Operations Section. Upon completion of
this tour of duty, he became the Officer-in-Charge of the Van Nuys
Vice unit and later returned to Metropolitan Division as a sergeant
which included a loan as the Adjutant to the Deputy Chief of
Special Operations Bureau.

In March 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant at
Southwest Area where he was assigned as a Watch Commander,
Administrative Lieutenant and Assistant Officer-in-Charge of
Southwest Detectives. In April 2009, he was selected as the
Lieutenant II Officer-in-Charge of the Ethics Enforcement Section,
Professional Standards Bureau. On January 1, 2012, he was promoted
to the rank of Captain and assigned as the Commanding Officer, West
Los Angeles Patrol Division.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, he graduated from
Loyola High School in 1982 and went on to obtain a Bachelor of
Science degree in Business Administration from California State
University Northridge. During college and prior to joining the
Department, he worked six years in private industry as a sports
radio and television producer for a National Football League team.
He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of
Police, National Tactical Officers Association, graduated from the
Los Angeles Police Department's Command Development School and
received leadership training from the Department's West Point
Leadership Program.
