WHAT: A graduation ceremony for members of the community who participated in an educational program about detective policing sponsored by the Detective Bureau of the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Operations- South Bureau.

WHY: To acknowledge graduates from the Department’s Detective Bureau Community Police Academy II Program, which is designed to inform and educate the community in various areas of “Detective Policing.” The academy provided insight into how LAPD detectives perform their specific duties and how the Department can better serve the community. Most importantly, it imparted valuable information to members of the community to which they wouldn’t otherwise have access.
The mission of the Detective Bureau Community Police Academy is to establish and improve communication between members of the community and the police through education and exposure to various police sciences. Not only does the program present the community with an enjoyable learning experience, it also provides insight into police services, practices and detective operations.
The Academy consists of a six-week course that meets once a week. Each class consists of a three-hour block of instruction (usually weeknights). It also includes a graduation during the last week.
