"Apparent Speed Contest Results In Death Of 15 Year Old Boy"

 

Los Angeles: On Thursday, November 8, 2001, at approximately 11:55 A.M., a fatal traffic collision occurred on Sunset Boulevard, East of Palisades Drive. A 17 year-old resident of Los Angeles, was driving a 1989 BMW 325i, at a high rate of speed, westbound on Sunset Boulevard. As he rounded a curve, he lost control of the vehicle and crossed into opposing lanes of traffic. A 1989 Ford F-150 pick-up, driven by a 40 year old male resident of Los Angeles, was Eastbound on Sunset Boulevard in the number one lane. The passenger side of the BMW impacted the front of the pick-up truck. A 15 year old resident of Los Angeles was a passenger in the right front of the BMW. He sustained massive internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics. The driver of the BMW sustained serious injuries to his head and torso. He was transported by paramedics to a local hospital where he was treated and admitted in stable condition. The driver of the pick-up was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

The initial on scene investigation revealed the BMW and another vehicle were traveling at high rates of speed. Witnesses claim to have seen the two vehicles side by side as they entered the curve. The driver and passenger of the BMW are students at Palisades High School and were off-campus during noon break.
